About jengmap & contact
jengmap is a free campus map for The Chinese University of Hong Kong, made and maintained by one student. It helps you find buildings, compare walking routes over the hill and check shuttle bus times, in English and 中文.
Who makes it
jengmap is a solo, student-led project by Leo Cheung, a CUHK student. It is not an official CUHK map, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by CUHK, the Hong Kong Government or any of the services credited below.
The name is only “jengmap”. CUHK is mentioned to say which campus the map is about, never as the name of the product. For official information about the university, see cuhk.edu.hk.
What it does
- Search buildings, colleges, shuttle stops and landmarks by English name, Chinese name or a short name such as LSK.
- Compare a fastest walk, a route with fewer stairs and shuttle options, with mapped lifts, covered walkways and a wheelchair setting. Walking times are modeled estimates, not measured trips.
- Count down to the next campus shuttle bus from the published timetables. These are scheduled times, not live bus tracking.
- Browse a 3D map or a lightweight 2D map, add jengmap to your Home Screen and keep using it offline after the first visit.
- Read the static campus guide: one page per building, college and shuttle stop, with the shuttle routes that serve it.
Where the data comes from
- Map features, paths and most building footprints: OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
- Terrain, the 3D Pedestrian Network and a few building outlines: HKSAR Government, Lands Department, through DATA.GOV.HK and CSDI.
- Shuttle timetables and service notices: CUHK Transport Office. Building names and map numbers: The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
- Classrooms, food and shops, study spaces, water, toilets and printing: the CUHK offices named on each place page, listed with their source links.
- Location photos: Wikimedia Commons, shown with the photographer, date and licence. Reuse of other official photos is unconfirmed, so those are linked, not copied.
Sources keep their own rights. The full list, with licences and downloads of the processed data, is on the credits page. A footprint does not prove a public entrance, and a timetable does not locate a bus; the map keeps those differences. Sources, licences & credits
How it is maintained
Every coordinate, hour, photo and alias comes from a recorded source file and is built by repeatable scripts, not drawn by hand. Corrections are made in those scripts, then checked by automated tests of the routing graph and route geometry.
Some things cannot be checked from a desk: which entrance is open, whether a lift works, how long a hill really takes. These are labelled as unverified on the pages and in the app, and need on-campus checks.
Recent updates
The app lists every update under About, then What’s new. The latest ones:
- Guide upgrade
- App button
- The apps are here
- Buy jengmap a coffee
- Clearer location, easier planning
- Info Day, now open early
Contact and corrections
Found a wrong entrance, a missing stair, a moved bus stop or a typo? Use Report a problem in the app (About), or email a correction using the address below. Say the place, your start and destination, the route option and what you saw. A photo of a public sign helps. Please do not send private group links or other people’s personal details.
jengmap is run by one person, so replies can take a few days. Corrections are reviewed against the source data before they are published.
